Typical challenges - and how we solve them
Heat exchangers (also known as heat exchangers) are industrial devices that transfer thermal energy from one material flow to another. The lower the heat transfer resistance, the higher their efficiency.
With Comprex® you can clean your systems in a targeted manner – quickly, gently and without chemicals.
The problem
In heat exchangers, limescale, rust, biofilms or production residues lead to decreasing heat exchanger performance, uneven process conditions and increasing energy consumption.
Contamination or deposits – also known as fouling – form additional contact resistance and significantly impair the function of the heat exchanger.
The solution
Comprex® uses specifically controlled air-water pulses to effectively remove fouling deposits – using only adapter connections at the inlet and outlet. Strong shearing forces efficiently remove deposits – without chemical additives.
Typical areas of application:
-
Plate heat exchanger
-
Shell and tube heat exchanger
The result
Your heat exchangers are efficiently cleaned on both the medium side and the heat transfer medium side – without cost-intensive dismantling and leak testing.
They regain full performance and flow rate, heat transfer is significantly improved, energy consumption is reduced and operational reliability is increased.
This is how Comprex® sustainably increases the efficiency of your heat exchangers.
Comprex® reliably removes limescale, rust, biofilm and other deposits from heat exchangers – for optimum heat transfer, stable process conditions and maximum operational reliability. Without any chemical additives.

3 steps to clean production systems
Step 1 Analysis & planning
In the initial consultation with you, we decide together the most economical way: either the heat exchanger is cleaned on your premises or sent to our cleaning center in Landau.
Taking into account the local conditions and process requirements, we develop a customized cleaning plan – tailored to your system technology, critical bottlenecks and the required process reliability.
Step 2 Preparation
We plan the cleaning sections, determine the entry and exit points and take care of all the logistics. When cleaning on your premises, our team of technicians arrives with the appropriate equipment and remains on site for the duration of the project.
Step 3 Cleaning & commissioning
Cleaning is carried out using targeted pulses of air and water with the Comprex® process. Deposits and residues are thoroughly removed – quickly, gently and usually without chemical additives.
Once the measure has been completed, we return the system to regular operation.
Fast, professional and ready for use: Our experienced team will take care of the cleaning for you – whether as a one-off or regularly as part of your maintenance concept.
Would you like to use the Comprex® process yourself? No problem. Our mobile systems are available for hire – including instruction, accessories and technical support.
Would you like to permanently integrate your own Comprex® cleaning system into your operating processes? Whether mobile or stationary – we have the right system for you and will train your staff.
"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself at the Landau test center. In detailed trials cleaning our products in test pipelines, we reached up to 60% savings in cleaning time and up to 90% in water consumption."
"The MCU-300 from Hammann represents an important component of our innovative industrial hygiene concept. The system is used at Meffert AG both for flushing pipelines and for cleaning stand-alone systems.
The cooperation with the colleagues from Hammann has worked very well since the beginning of the project.
Project planning and commissioning were transparent and professional. All inquiries are processed promptly, and ideas and optimization requests are discussed openly with our technical department even months after commissioning.
The MCU300 is intuitive for our employees to operate, can be used almost anywhere due to its dimensions, and works very reliably."
"Before flushing the main pumping station, we had a pump runtime of almost 20 hours and a pumping capacity of 250 m³ of wastewater. As a result of the flushing action, we were able to determine that on some days we achieve a pumping capacity of 270 m³ of wastewater with a pump runtime of 15 hours. This clearly shows an improvement in the efficiency of our system.
"It is no longer possible to imagine our maintenance of injection molds without the cleaning technology from HAMMANN. The Comprex® cleaning is without alternative in very many applications. Thank you for the excellent and pragmatic service."
"The Hammann company was commissioned to clean the stainless steel gas pipe using their Comprex process. Success was already evident when the cleaning was carried out, as the escaping rinse water was heavily contaminated.
After cleaning and recommissioning, the aforementioned pressure fluctuations did not occur again. It was not easy to create the necessary inlet and outlet to the gas pipeline. It is also problematic to take a gas pipeline out of service for a longer period of time when there is no redundancy. Nevertheless, the effort was worth it, as the cleaning has had the desired effect."
"Our initial skepticism that comprex could be too intense for our piping system was unfounded. The pulse pressure always remains below the network pressure and so we don't have to worry about pipe bursts due to excessive pressure. The pulse flushing process can reduce the deposits in our old network so significantly that maintenance is absolutely economically viable compared to replacement."
"Our conclusion: The test of the Comprex® unit can be rated as thoroughly positive. The cleaning effect can be seen as very good, in some cases even blockages could be loosened. Due to the rather simple operation, the unit could be operated without any problems after the short instruction. No problems were encountered during the test phase.
At this point, we would like to thank you again for the test opportunity and the trust you have placed in us."
"We have had very good experiences with comprex and are very satisfied with the cooperation that has grown over the years. The Hammann GmbH technicians know our network, arrangements are quick and uncomplicated and the assignments are already a fixed part of our annual planning for network maintenance."

Frequently asked questions about heat exchangers
How does cleaning with Comprex® work in heat exchangers?
Comprex® uses controlled air-water pulses that move at high speed through the pipe bundles and channels. This creates shear forces that reliably loosen and remove deposits and residues – completely without chemicals and in many cases without dismantling.
Does production have to be interrupted for cleaning?
In many cases – depending on your production processes – on-site cleaning can be carried out during short shutdown phases or in parallel with scheduled maintenance. This keeps production downtime to a minimum, and it is often even possible to clean without completely shutting down the system.
Which residues can be removed?
Comprex® reliably removes limescale, rust, biofilms, production residues and solids. Even stubborn deposits in narrow channels or hard-to-reach areas are effectively dissolved.
Is the cleaning process suitable for all system materials?
Yes, because Comprex® works purely mechanically and does not require aggressive chemicals, the method is particularly gentle on materials. It is suitable for stainless steel, copper, aluminum and many other materials used in heat exchangers. Even plates for special applications (e.g. with enamel and graphite coating) can be cleaned with Comprex®.
How long does cleaning take?
The duration depends on the size, structure and degree of soiling of the heat exchanger. As a rule, systems can be cleaned within a few hours – significantly faster and more efficiently than with conventional flushing or chemical processes.
What advantages do I have after cleaning - and can Comprex® also be used preventively?
After cleaning, the heat transfer performance increases measurably, the energy requirement decreases and the operational reliability increases. Regular or preventive cleaning prevents new deposits, extends the service life of the heat exchanger and reduces downtime and maintenance costs in the long term.
