Comprex® V –
the breakthrough for viscous media
As soon as media become more viscous than water, conventional flushing processes across all industries reach their physical and economic limits.
Comprex® V transfers the proven Comprex® impulse flushing process specifically to applications with increased viscosity.
The challenge of increased viscosity
Regardless of the industry or application, as soon as the viscosity of a medium is higher than that of water, the conditions for effective cleaning change fundamentally.
Classic flushing processes are based on continuous flow. This results in a typical velocity profile with a high flow velocity in the center of the pipe and a significantly lower velocity near the pipe wall. However, this is precisely where the cleaning effect is crucial.
In order to still generate shear forces on the pipe wall, the volume flow and pressure are increased.
This approach quickly leads to increasing viscosity:
very high demands on pump performance and system mechanics
high energy input
sharply increasing consumption of the flushing medium used
With water-based media, such effects can often be technically controlled with water.
In many applications, however, water is not permitted, not desired or not useful.
Turbulent and dynamic - Comprex® V
Instead of generating the cleaning effect via ever higher flow velocities, Comprex® V uses the proven Comprex® impulse flushing process: Dynamic pulses generate localized turbulence and targeted shear forces on the pipe wall – quickly, gently andefficiently with far less flushing medium.
The effect is currently proven to be resilient for media in the range of approx. 40-100 cSt.
Extensions to higher viscosities are currently being tested.
Do you currently use complex and time-consuming rinsing technology with high energy requirements? Then Comprex® V can significantly speed up your existing cleaning process and make it much more efficient!

The advantages of Comprex® V at a glance
Due to the pulse-based mode of action, considerably less medium is required than with classic continuous flow or pressure flushing.
The targeted impulse effect accelerates the cleaning process and reduces downtimes.
Even areas with low flow rates at branches and fittings are reliably cleaned.
The Comprex® unit manages with a compact pump - high-performance pumps are not required.
The process can be integrated into existing process and cleaning structures.
If required, pulses are generated using controlled inert gases such as nitrogen.
The cleaning performance can be verified using established testing and validation procedures.
What classic oil rinses cannot do
In an extensive test campaign with our partner HydaQ, realistic hydraulic lines were set up – including bends, hose sections and a magnetic model with adhesive forces of 17 to 160 kg.
Tested media: hydraulic oils in the 46-80 cSt range
Comparison: classic oil flushing up to 8-10 m/s
The results:
Classic rinsing only partially dissolved deposits
Visual residual adhesions remained even at high speeds
Comprex® V removed the deposits completely with just a few pulses – reproducible and deeply effective
Particularly impressive: effect in dead spaces and areas with a low flow rate
Significantly lower flushing media requirement at the same time
This provided proof of function for Comprex® V – visible, measurable and documented.

Karsten Zyrull, Head of FieldService at HYDAC
"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself at the Landau test center. In detailed trials cleaning our products in test pipelines, we reached up to 60% savings in cleaning time and up to 90% in water consumption."
"The MCU-300 from Hammann represents an important component of our innovative industrial hygiene concept. The system is used at Meffert AG both for flushing pipelines and for cleaning stand-alone systems.
The cooperation with the colleagues from Hammann has worked very well since the beginning of the project.
Project planning and commissioning were transparent and professional. All inquiries are processed promptly, and ideas and optimization requests are discussed openly with our technical department even months after commissioning.
The MCU300 is intuitive for our employees to operate, can be used almost anywhere due to its dimensions, and works very reliably."
"Before flushing the main pumping station, we had a pump runtime of almost 20 hours and a pumping capacity of 250 m³ of wastewater. As a result of the flushing action, we were able to determine that on some days we achieve a pumping capacity of 270 m³ of wastewater with a pump runtime of 15 hours. This clearly shows an improvement in the efficiency of our system.
We would also like to mention that thanks to Comprex® we were able to remove around 14 m³ of residue from the pipe that had accumulated over the years. This cleaning has helped to improve the performance of our system and prevent future problems."
"It is no longer possible to imagine our maintenance of injection molds without the cleaning technology from HAMMANN. The Comprex® cleaning is without alternative in very many applications. Thank you for the excellent and pragmatic service."
"The Hammann company was commissioned to clean the stainless steel gas pipe using their Comprex process. Success was already evident when the cleaning was carried out, as the escaping rinse water was heavily contaminated.
After cleaning and recommissioning, the aforementioned pressure fluctuations did not occur again. It was not easy to create the necessary inlet and outlet to the gas pipeline. It is also problematic to take a gas pipeline out of service for a longer period of time when there is no redundancy. Nevertheless, the effort was worth it, as the cleaning has had the desired effect."
"Our initial skepticism that comprex could be too intense for our piping system was unfounded. The pulse pressure always remains below the network pressure and so we don't have to worry about pipe bursts due to excessive pressure. The pulse flushing process can reduce the deposits in our old network so significantly that maintenance is absolutely economically viable compared to replacement."
"Our conclusion: The test of the Comprex® unit can be rated as thoroughly positive. The cleaning effect can be seen as very good, in some cases even blockages could be loosened. Due to the rather simple operation, the unit could be operated without any problems after the short instruction. No problems were encountered during the test phase.
At this point, we would like to thank you again for the test opportunity and the trust you have placed in us."
"We have had very good experiences with comprex and are very satisfied with the cooperation that has grown over the years. The Hammann GmbH technicians know our network, arrangements are quick and uncomplicated and the assignments are already a fixed part of our annual planning for network maintenance."

Frequently asked questions about Comprex® V
Which media and rinsing media does Comprex® V work with?
Comprex® V is designed for applications with higher viscosity flushing media. The effect has currently been proven for flushing media in the range of approx. 40-100 cSt. (The viscosity of the flushing medium is decisive.) Extensions to higher viscosities are currently being tested.
Does Comprex® V replace existing cleaning processes?
Comprex® V can shorten cleaning times and significantly reduce the amount of media used wherever today’s continuous flow or pressure rinsing processes basically work.
Can Comprex® V also be used in existing CIP processes?
Yes, Comprex® V can be integrated into existing CIP and cleaning processes. The design is application-specific, depending on the medium, geometry and process requirements.
Why is the impulse flushing process more effective for viscous media than conventional flushing?
With viscous media, conventional flushing methods reach their physical limits. In order to generate sufficiently high shear forces on the pipe wall with a continuous flow, very high flow velocities must be used. This is often associated with high energy requirements, high pressure losses and increased mechanical stress on the system. The Comprex® impulse flushing process does not rely on a permanently high volume flow, but on short-term flow pulses with a high local speed in the area close to the wall. These pulses repeatedly accelerate the boundary layer and generate high instantaneous shear forces, which are crucial for the removal of build-up and deposits. |
How is the cleaning effect of Comprex® V proven?
The cleaning performance can be verified using established test and documentation procedures, e.g. via particle analyses, residue assessments or process-specific validations – depending on the industry and application.
In short: with the test methods that you use anyway.
In which sectors can Comprex® V be used?
Comprex® V can be used across all industries, particularly in the food industry, consumer goods industry, pharmaceuticals, hydraulic oil lines and similar technical applications.
